Wooden Wick Booster 3/4″ x 5″
Intro: The 3/4″ Wooden Wick Booster is our largest booster wick, meant to supercharge our widest flat wooden wicks (such as a 3/4″ or even 7/8″ main wick) in extra-large candles. This booster is intended for use in candles around 4.5″ up to 5″ in diameter – essentially the very biggest container candles you might make. When a single huge wick is not quite enough, adding this booster will deliver the additional flame strength needed. It’s particularly useful in scenarios like large-diameter soy candles, multi-wick sized jars where you prefer to use one wick, or any candle that’s pushing the limits of one wooden wick. The 3/4″ booster will help ensure a proper burn and prevent your candle from faltering. (Only use alongside a flat wooden wick, in the same clip.)
-
For Huge Candles: Use this booster when your candle diameter is roughly 4.5″, 5″, or somewhere in between. It’s tailor-made for those “statement” candles – for example, a giant 5-wick-capacity jar where you want to try a single wood wick; this booster makes that feasible by beefing up the flame.
-
Ensures Complete Burn: In very large candles, often the edges remain unmelted or the flame weakens over time. The booster’s extra core provides continuous support so the flame stays strong from top to bottom, melting the wax completely and evenly.
-
Especially for Soy/Beeswax: These natural waxes in a big format can be notoriously hard to keep lit. The 3/4″ booster was practically made for 100% soy mega candles – it gives that crucial extra fuel to maintain a beautiful, full flame in waxes that would normally drown a lone wick.
-
High, Stable Flame: Expect a tall flame that remains stable. The booster makes the flame broader and a bit taller, but importantly, it keeps it vertical and fed (so it doesn’t dwindle or sputter out). You’ll get a magnificent flame that does justice to your large candle without going out.
-
Use with Largest Wicks: Pair this with your WW-5, WW-6, or similar size wood wicks. It fits into the clip right alongside a 3/4″ main wick. Essentially, you’re creating an ultra-wide dual wick that can tackle what a single wick alone might not.
Usage Instructions:
-
Combine with Main Wick: Align the 3/4″ booster wick with your primary wick (which might be 3/4″ or 7/8″ wide itself). Insert both together into one metal wick clip (sold separately) – it will be a tight fit, as this is a lot of wood in one clip, but the clip is designed to hold them. Ensure they are flush at the base. If your main wick is 7/8″ and doesn’t quite fit with the booster, you may instead use a 3/4″ main wick plus this booster to total an even wider effective wick.
-
Secure in Container Center: Find the exact center of your large container and firmly attach the clip with both wicks. Accuracy here prevents uneven burning later. Because this assembly is wide, you want it dead-center. Use a strong adhesive to keep it in place.
-
Pour the Wax: Carefully pour your wax around the wicks. The double-thickness wick should remain upright, but because of the size, it might be wise to use a centering tool or even two clothes pins on either side to stabilize it during the pour. Once the wax cools, the wicks will be locked in place.
-
Proper Trimming: Trim the wicks down to about 1/8″ above the wax surface before lighting. This is very important at this large size – too much exposed wick can lead to an excessively large flame. By trimming short, you start with a controlled flame that will gradually grow to the right size.
-
Burn and Adjust: Light the wick at an edge; both pieces will catch and burn together, forming one big flame. Keep an eye on the first burn – in such a large candle, it might take several hours to reach a full melt pool. The booster’s job is to help make that happen in a reasonable time. If you see one part of the wick burning faster (rare, but if main vs. booster burn unevenly), extinguish and trim the longer part slightly to even them out. Generally, they should burn in lockstep. Enjoy the impressive crackling flame! As always, after each burn, trim off charred wood to prepare for the next lighting.
When you’re venturing into extra-large candles, the 3/4″ booster is your best ally. It pushes the limits of what a single wood wick can do, ensuring that even your most ambitious candle creations burn beautifully and completely.
