humans love the smell, scorpions run away or die

Posted by Max on 10th Aug 2016

Somewhere I read cedarwood oil keeps away scorpions (and other nasty critters). Two months ago I purchased 5 pounds of Atlas cedarwood oil and poured it on the ground at the front door, garage door and sliding doors in back.

For two months... no scorpions! Since now is high season for scorpions, and we typically find several per month inside, that's impressive! Incidentally, also no cockroaches, no crickets, no ants, no bugs at all. After two months, found one in the garage and decided to order a 25 pound can, which should be enough for the better part of one year. $400 per year is cheaper than calling in pest control... which in the past NEVER WORKED.

Also, unlike pest control, cedarwood oil is COMPLETELY NON-TOXIC to humans... and SMELLS WONDERFUL (even if a bit on the strong side in the garage for the first few days).

I'm quite surprised how well cedarwood oil has worked. It used to go out at night with a UV flashlight and find several scorpions on the outside walls of the house and often running around on the driveway or sidewalk. Since starting with cedarwood oil at the entrances to the house, I don't see them any more, even far away from the entrances. They must really, really, really hate the odor.

NOTE: I do put down quite a bit of oil to get these results (which is why it costs $400~$500 per year to do what I'm doing). I very much doubt spraying tiny quantity around entrances would be sufficient for very long. HOWEVER, I do believe it would be more efficient (more results for less cedarwood oil) to apply perhaps 1/3 the quantity twice as often (or 1/6 the quantity four times as often). I'm sure someone could run experiments to find the most cost efficient tradeoff.

Also note that I do not dilute the oil... I just poured it the first time (from the 5 pound container). The easiest way I found to apply the oil from the large, heavy 25 pound container I have now is with a 0.25" to 0.50" diameter metal/plastic tube. Lower the tube into the oil, cover the upper end with your thumb to create a seal, lift up the tube, then very gradually move your thumb to let the cedarwood oil slowly dribble/run out of the tube as you move the tube along the entrance to the house.

    Very high quality

Posted by Anne B on 5th Aug 2016

I purchased the Virginia and Texas varieties to compare which I preferred. We are 'freshening' up a large cedar closet that has done a perfect job of keeping pests away from my precious cashmere sweaters, wool coats and other stored clothing.
I also like to diffuse some around the house just because we both enjoy the fragrance.
We heat our home with wood, and are lucky enough to have some downed cedar trees. We save them to burn around the holidays when family is visiting.
I prefer the Virginian (I spent years while growing up in West Virginia). It reminds me of that part of my life and being home. My husband prefers the Texas. So, we'll trade them off in the diffusers.
On a side note, adding some lemon essential oil, along with tea tree to the cedar makes a great cleaning product. I find tea tree to be too medicinal, even though I use it anyway, but through some experimenting, I've found I really enjoy that blend.
I've been using essential oils around the house, in handcrafted soaps, and for holistic purposes for many, many years. I've tried several suppliers and have found Bulk Apothecary to be my go to place now for not just essential oils but so much more. I can trust the quality and know I won't find a better price anywhere. They've earned their high reputation, over and over again with me. My customers constantly comment about the quality and consistency of my products. My products are only as good as the ingredients I use in them, so finding a superior long term supplier can make the difference between a happy repeat customer, and losing business. There's no need to look anywhere but here for both personal and business purposes. They hit it out of the park every time.

    Excellent

Effective ectoparasitacidal at a 90% dilution in goat (Nigerian) husbandry. Will be continuing ongoing as a preventive Lice are extremely resistant to pesticides, these lice were doing laps in the pyrethrums . A lifesaver, I used the "Texas".
(Specifics help the next reviewer)!! So far no dermal sensitivity issues. Everyone had a shave and haircut first as this is much more than 2 bits.

The therapeutic quality of your products cannot be disputed. They are getting me verifiable results in my contest with prostate cancer. My PSA went down 3.6 ng/ml. I am continuing with your essential oils.
