Smelled like vanilla flavored vodka
Extremely Disappointed. I had high hopes for the vanilla oleoresin I purchased from Bulk Apothecary, but this product was a major letdown. Instead of the warm, sweet aroma you expect from vanilla, what I received smelled overwhelmingly of strong alcohol or spirit solvent—nothing even remotely close to vanilla.
If I wanted something that resembled vanilla beans steeped in vodka, I could have made that myself at home for a fraction of the price. The product listing simply mentions "solvent extracted," but fails to warn that the end result reeks of raw alcohol.
Worse yet, when I tried blending it into a carrier oil, it created a thick brown sludge that completely ruined my batch. The smell turned acrid and unpleasant—definitely not usable for skincare or aromatherapy applications.
I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated. I wish Bulk Apothecary would offer a CO₂-extracted version, or at the very least, properly treat the oleoresin post-extraction to remove the harsh alcohol odor. This is not just a residue issue—it fundamentally alters the quality and usability of the product.
I won’t be repurchasing this product, and I strongly urge others to look elsewhere if you're seeking a true vanilla experience. -
Oleoresin but with solvent
Oleoresin is a very thick viscosity. Like molasses. This appears to be oleoresin but it still has some solvent in it. Solvent in oleoresin is like an unnecessary filler. I suspect this is why it's so inexpensive compared to other vanilla oleoresin.

NOT GOOD FOR CP soap
Smells great but will make your CP soap seize instantly. Not truly as oil

extract, not essential oil
It is what it says it is. I just want people to know what an oleoresin is. It means that it contains some of the oils, not that it is only oil from a vanilla bean. This is what happens when you place vanilla beans in a vodka mixture as well - extract.
This vanilla works well with bath and body products like lotions and deodorants, smells great! But not in soaps. It's just not enough and the lye process destroys the scent. I gave it a try anyway with benzoin to enhance the scent and it had a slight vanilla smell, but just barely (and I used a lot). Just FYI -
Its of more so an extract
Love this vanilla extract and it hold well better when mixed with the benzoin and myrrh oils. Well worth it as it is really hard to find vanilla absolute and, even so, it would be very costly at that too. I made a meditation oil with clove, cinnamon,vanilla,myrrh,benzoin,cedarwood,etc....So yay, hope they continue to keep supplying this vanilla.

Love the smell but I find I have trouble producing a good bar of soap with it.
