The web is full of recipes for making your own dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent/laundry detergent booster as well as other niche applications for Borax that you would never think of.
Borax was first widely available when hauled out of the dry lake beds of Nevada and California by a large team of Mule’s, thus making it cheap and plentiful enough to be widely available for use. Try mixing 1 tablespoon of Borax with 1 tablespoon of baking soda and placing in your dishwasher’s detergent compartment. The mild abrasiveness of both ingredients will blast away tough deposits on your dishes and save you money. Borax is one of the most commonly used ingredients in detergents used in the detergent manufacturing industry today. Experiment and find an online recipe for making your own laundry detergent that will soften and clean clothes as well as the expensive store bought brands. Mix with lemon juice to create a safe, inexpensive rust remover.

Soak candle wicks in a mixture of Borax, salt and water to reduce smoke and ash in your homemade candle creations.
Add 1 ½ cups of Borax to every 5 pounds of kitty litter to help deodorize and freshen your cat’s litter box. Borax can be used to neutralize urine odors. After a lot of price comparison, this is the best place to buy bulk borax. The 50 pound bag was made of heavy industrial paper and arrived completely intact inside the shipping box.
I break down the large quantity by putting it into silver Mylar bags with an oxygen absorber. Even adding that cost in addition to shipping, and this is still a great deal and cheaper than I could find anywhere else. Borax is so versatile that every one should have some on hand. If you want to take advantage of the fantastic 50 pound bulk price, but don't want the full amount, reach out to others and split it up. A box of 2 1/2 gallon Ziploc bags, a scale or measuring cup, add a friend or 2, and a friendly visit also becomes a way to save money. That system works for all the larger quantities. Buy all your staples at once to take advantage of the 15% off coupon. Can't go wrong.

The 50 lbs box of Borax is a great value. The borax is high quality and perfectly ground for most household applications. My suggestion is to store the Borax in two 5 gallon buckets with sealable lids. I use this Borax in my laundry and it works great! My husband uses the Borax for forge welding and it works great for him too! Over all this is a great value and it saved me a lot of money by buying in bulk. If you need borax, you will not be disappointed getting it from these fine folks at Bulk Apothecary. I was astonished when I received my order for 50 pounds. It is *better* and *more* than I expected. I will not think of getting borax from anywhere else next time - and there will be a "next time" because borax is so useful!
Many uses for borax are described in the listing, but there are even more! I will be using this batch of borax as part of a formulation to provide protection for wood. With boric acid, this will preserve wood against termites, powderpost beetles and fungal dry rot. Borax also strengthens wood and acts as a fire retardant. It truly is an amazing product.
