It?s been a few months since we first started our series The Zodiac Guide to Essential Oils. After covering the health challenges and essential oils for Taurus, Aries, Gemini and Cancer, we?re almost a quarter through with today?s Zodiac infographic on Leo, which runs from July 23 to August 17.
Each sign of the Zodiac carries with it certain attributes, compatibilities and contradictions, and that all extends to physical health. Aries is prone to tension in the head and neck, which leads them to suffer from headaches and muscle pain. Gemini is vulnerable to respiratory ailments like asthma and bronchitis. Leo?s problems center in the spine and heart. But before we dive into this sign?s specific health concerns, let?s talk about the attributes that give rise to them.
- Symbol: The Lion
- Opposite Sign: Aquarius
- Colors: Gold
- Ruling Planet: The Sun
- Ruled by: Heart, spine, liver and spleen
The energy of a Leo, like the gravitational pull of the Sun, draws people in like a magnet. They?re an outgoing group, typically the leader in any situation they find themselves in. Leo is a fire sign, and they are anything but passive. This sign gets along most frequently with Saggitarius, Aries, Gemini and Libra. Friction can happen between a Leo and a Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces, Cancer and especially bull-headed Taurus.
The confidence of people born under the Lion is proverbial. They?re fiercely loyal to their friends and the causes they care about. This force of personality is born out of a general lack of fear of judgment from others; they simply aren?t worried too much about what others think. Their vibrant energy, which comes from the Sun causes them to be extremely focused in all their endeavors. Their enthusiasm, outgoing nature and open heart give them the social magnetism that Leos are so often known for.
All of that energy can oftentimes overwhelm more passive signs, so Leo can be characterized by an overbearing nature. Often controlling and stubborn?which is partly where their focus comes from?Lions? confidence can also carry the side-effect of vanity, which is why they?re often accused of being self-absorbed, pompous or even narcissistic.
Leo?s health challenges center on the heart, and they are often vulnerable to blood clots and heart attack. They?re also prone to fever and high blood pressure. Being ruled by the spine also means that back problems crop up frequently for a Lion, often due to muscle-tension in the lower back.
These ailments aren?t destiny for a Leo, but it takes concerted attention to their health in order to avoid the worst of heart disease and long-term back issues. Avoiding rich foods, watching that cholesterol and exercising regularly can help keep all these issues at bay, but avoiding stress is also key to avoiding the tension in their backs and wear-and-tear on their hearts.
Leo?s Essential Oil: Rose
You?ll find this essential oil frequently in perfumes and aromatherapy due to its strong floral scent, but rose oil has been in use for thousands of years for a host of health benefits. This oil is perfect for heart-ruled Leos because it acts as a vasoconstrictor for the heart and arteries. It?s also an antispasmodic, making rose ideal for relieving muscle tension in the lower back and giving the spine a chance to realign itself.
In its absolute form, rose oil can be rather potent, so I recommend experimenting with various dilutions if you find the scent to be very strong. It can be hard to discern some of the various accents and aromatic characteristics until its diluted in water or a odorless base.
