DIY Glossy Lemon Lip Balm

Citrusy scents are a summer signature. They’re light, refreshing, invigorating, and leave us feeling ready for days full of sun, sand, and swimming. I know when the warmer months roll around (or even when I’m struggling with a case of the winter blues), switching out some of my heavier scented products for ones that have a lighter, crisper scent lift my spirits and make me feel awake. Lip gloss falls prey to this product swap as well and this year, rather than running to the makeup counter in search of a new summer lip product, I’m making my own- and you can too!

The ingredients are all natural, chemical free, and leave your lips shiny and feeling velvety soft. The scent is light and refreshing and reminds me of fresh squeezed lemonade- which I LOVE. So of course, this recipe is a hit for me! I like a glossy finish to my lip products and the consistency of this gloss sits perfectly on the lip without absorbing too quickly. Oh- and it tastes pretty fantastic too. Give it a try and see how easy it is to make your own custom lip gloss!

Glossy Lemon Lip Balm

What you’ll need:

Lip Balm Containers
2 teaspoons of White Beeswax
1 teaspoons Honey
1 teaspoon Aloe Vera
1 teaspoon Lemon/Lime Flavor
1 tablespoon Vitamin E Oil
3-6 drops of Lemon Essential Oil

*Almond Extract (optional, to taste)

How you do it:

Melt the beeswax slowly over low heat, or in the microwave using short time increments and stirring in between. Once melted, remove from the heat (or microwave) and continue stirring. While still stirring (lots of stirring here), add in the honey, aloe vera, almond extract, and vitamin E. The almond extract will help balance the acidity of the lemon, but it is optional. Just add to taste. Keep on stirring. Add the lemon essential oil last and stir some more to be sure all ingredients are well blended into the mixture. Fill your lip balm containers (I love the aluminum lip balm tins), toss one in your purse or beach bag, and store the extras in the refrigerator.

    1. This doesn’t have an expiration date; if sweetener or zinc is added (zinc is used for SPF), they it will be roughly two years.
