Cherry Lip Scrub Recipe
Summertime means soooo many things: Warm weather. Sunshine. Lighter clothing. Swimming. Spending time at the beach. Barbeques. Family get-togethers. Tanned skin. The list could go on and on…Unfortunately, sunburns are on that list. Typically, when we think of a sunburn, we all tend to see our bodies looking like a bright red lobster and then peeling away like snake skin. It’s a nasty little negative that comes along with all of the summertime fun we have planned. And even though you may be doing your best to protect yourself from too much sun, occasionally you feel the sting of summer on those areas of exposed skin that soaked up a few too many rays.
Often times we focus most of our attention on coating our bodies with SPF and forget about our lips! Lips can burn just like our bodies can and the aftermath of sunburned lips shows up in the form of dry, cracked, peeling skin- much like chapped lips. Yuck. It’s no fun. So after you vow to never let your lips burn again and buy up every chap stick with sun protection available, how do you get rid of the icky peeling skin left behind from the burn? Exfoliate of course!
Here’s a wonderful recipe for an exfoliating lip scrub that will gently remove dry, chapped skin and leave your kisser feeling silky smooth!
Very Cherry Lip Scrub
You’ll need these ingredients:
.7 oz. White Beeswax
.6 oz. Avocado Oil
.7 oz. Sweet Almond Oil
.2 oz. Vitamin E Oil
1 oz. Shea Butter
2.5 oz. White Sugar
6 ml. Cherry Flavoring
Lip Balm Jars
And you’ll follow these easy steps:
1. Combine the beeswax, shea butter and liquid oils in a microwave safe glass bowl and warm until the beeswax has completely melted (doing 30 second increments in the microwave and stirring in between).
2. Once all of the oils are in liquid form, mix in the cherry flavor and stir well to blend.
3. Stir in 2.5 ounces of white sugar (this is the exfoliating ingredient in the recipe) and mix well making sure all ingredients are well incorporated.
4. Scoop your mixture into small lip balm jars and allow to cool and solidify.
To use– apply a small amount of the scrub with your fingertip to your lips and gently rub in a circular motion for 30 seconds (or longer if you need extra exfoliation). Wipe the scrub off with a damp towel and apply a moisturizing lip balm. Your lips will LOVE the smoothing effects of this simple, homemade sugar scrub!
