Warning: This blog post contains a whole bunch of educational tidbits! After reading this, not only will you know a great way to relieve your body of aches and pains and get your skin glowing, you’ll also sound like a total smarty pants when telling all of your friends about it.
So let’s get chatty about Bentonite Clay!

Bentonite Clay Detox Soak Recipe 1

What exactly is it, you ask?

Well, Bentonite clay is part of the Smectite family of clays (smarty pants tidbit #1!), which are known as “living clays”. These clays are referred to as “living” due to their ability to make chemical changes happen and they’re also the only clays capable of both absorption AND adsorption (pretty impressive). Clay itself it the result of weathered volcanic ash (that’s another little fact you can toss around during a conversation), a compound of 60-70 pure trace minerals that are present in natural oxide form.

So what exactly does that mean and why do we care?

Well, having a negative electro-magnetic charge causes it to act like a super strong vacuum sucking out positively charged matter from our bodies- like toxins, bacteria, viruses, molds, and yeast (yuck!). Bentonite can also cleanse and detox the body both externally AND internally! It has a pH of 9.7 and boasts homeostatic abilities that restore balance and equilibrium to the body.
I know I just tossed out a lot of really scientific info here, so if you just want to remember the basics of why this clay is amazing, tell your friends this: It heals. And it does it by-

1. Detoxifying the body
2. Restoring balance
3. Stimulating blood flow, oxygen, and circulation to promote cellular repair

Externally, you can use Bentonite clay in the form of a mask or as a soak. Since the skin is the body’s largest organ (another smarty pants fact!), soaking in a clay bath pulls out toxins and impurities, relieves sore muscles, and stimulates circulation all over- leaving you looking and feeling better both inside and out!

Bentonite Clay Detox Soak

1 cup bentonite clay
1/2 cup unscented dead sea salt
10 drops essential oils of your choice (choose a relaxing scent like lavender or eucalyptus)

Mix the clay separately in warm water, stirring well until dissolved. While filling the bath tub with warm to hot water, mix in the epsom salt by swirling the water with your hand. Pour in the clay mixture and the essential oil and continue to swirl the water until all ingredients appear to be well incorporated. Soak in the clay bath for 20-30 minutes and remember to drink water during and after the bath to maintain hydration. Enjoy this bath as needed!

Ps- the warmer you make the water, the more powerful the detox will be- so detox carefully!
