Are you running out of creative things to do?
Need a fun little afternoon project to work on?
With the kids home for the summer you may have found yourself reaching for things to do that will occupy their attention (and maybe keep them out of your hair for a few minutes). Even though summer is full of sunshine and time spent outdoors, every once in awhile we find ourselves trapped inside on a rainy day. With the kids.
Hmmm…what to do, what to do?.
Before you reach for the TV remote, how about trying a craft project that the kids will enjoy helping with? And one that you’ll all enjoy using! Making homemade products with natural ingredients is a great way to teach your kids about all of the wonderful remedies nature provides us with and the alternative products we can create rather than using store bought items. It could be the perfect little educational class disguised as a fun afternoon (sneaky, right?).
This lip balm recipe is great for an afternoon craft. It’s quick and easy, and it’s a great way to get the kids involved! Simple, natural ingredients that come together effortlessly and result in an ultra moisturizing (and yummy tasting) treat for your lips!
Easy Orange Lip Balm
What you’ll need:
How to do it:
Step 1- Place the coconut oil, beeswax and honey in a double boiler (or glass bowl sitting on top of a saucepan filled with about an inch or two of simmering water). Heat slowly until everything has melted together.
Step 2- Remove mixture from heat, and add sweet orange essential oil. Stir until blended.
Step 3- Pour the mixture into the empty lip balm containers, place covers on, and let the tins sit to cool. The mixture will firm as it cools and turn into the typical lip balm texture.
Step 4- Now it’s time to get creative (the kids will be great at this!). Name your lip balms something catchy and fun, design a cute little label to print and stick on all of the tins, and ENJOY!!
Not only did you get an afternoon of quality time with your little ones, you also made a wonderful treat for your lips. It’s a win-win scenario.
