Recipe: Diaper Pail Refreshers

Here’s a recipe for all you Mom and Dad’s out there.

Have you notice that not so pleasant smell coming from your child’s nursery? Those diaper pails promise to keep all the odors locked inside, but do they really work? I know mine doesn’t!

I found a simple homemade solution to that problem. Diaper Pail Refreshers! These simple refreshers really do work and they’re very easy to make. These deodorizers not only save you money from purchasing those store bought disks, they get the job done. Just slip into the bottom of the pail when complete for a fresh new scent.

Homemade Diaper Pail Refreshers

Muffin/Cupcake Tin (You can also use Bulk Apothecary’s Plastic Baby Onesie T-Shirt soap mold, or one of the other soap molds just for fun)
Paper Muffin Wrappers-12
2 Cups Baking Soda (aka Sodium Bicarbonate)
7-10 Tablespoons of Hot Water
2 Tablespoons- Peppermint Essential Oil (Japanese or Supreme will work)
1 Teaspoon- Tea Tree Essential Oil

Mix together essential oils with 2 cups of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), slowly add hot water until you have a thick paste. Fill paper muffin wrappers (or soap molds) 1/2 full. Let dry for 24-48 hours. After drying time, your refresher is ready to use. Simply place in the bottom of the diaper pail. For best results remove the paper wrapper and replace refresher every 2 weeks. Keep remaining refreshers in a plastic tupperware container.

I hope you enjoy this recipe.

*Tip: Use a variety of essential oils to get the desired scent you want. If using the soap molds, you will not need the paper muffin wrappers.

  1. How do you get these to stick together? Mine crumble badly when I try to get them out of the mold or even when I just try to pick them up. I let them dry for almost 48 hours.
