Homemade Natural Mosquito Repellent Recipe

Homemade Natural Mosquito Repellent Recipe

I have a love/hate relationship with nice weather. I love being outdoors, working in the garden, and enjoy running around with my kids. One thing I hate is those painful mosquito bites, and they seem to attack my entire family! I found some pretty interesting reasons mosquito’s attack:

  1. You talk too much – Mosquito’s are attracted to Carbon Dioxide. Those who exhale more than others when the breath are more likely to attract those pesky bugs.
  2. Blood Type O – According to studies, those with blood type O attract more biting insects than those with any other blood type.
  3. Sweating – People who sweat or with higher body temperature send signals to mosquitos that you are their next meal!
  4. Mosquito’s enjoy a drink – Those biting bugs are more attracted to people who consume alcohol. This can be very difficult with those summer parties coming up.

With summer approaching,  it’s time to get out the mosquito repellent. If you’re looking for a natural remedy that you can make without the use of harmful chemicals, you’ve come to the right place. With the right mix of essential oils, you will have the perfect mister to keep those pesky bugs away.

10 Drops Lemon Eucalyptus Oil

10 Drops Citronella Oil

2 Tablespoons of Witch Hazel (You can also use another carrier oil you have on hand, but we prefer the witch hazel)

Empty Bottle

Sprayer/Mister Top

Simply Mix the Lemon Eucalyptus Oil, the Citronella Essential Oil and the Witch Hazel together in a bottler with a spray top. Shake and spray on skin or clothing. Be sure to keep the product away from your eyes. Store in a cool/dark place and shake before re-use. It’s best to be applied to dry skin.

*Tip– this recipe makes a small quantity. To mix more and store, just be sure to increase the amounts of each ingredient proportionately and keep final product out of sunlight.
