Choosing Carrier Oils For Your Skin Type

Choosing Carrier Oils For Your Skin Type

When making homemade soaps, lotions and topical products, carrier oils are an important component. Aside from the essential oils that you add to the mix, carrier oils boast their own set of benefits making certain oils better for particular skin types.

Whether you’re mixing up a thick balm for dry, cracked winter skin or making a bar soap to sooth sensitive skin types, the carrier oil you choose will make an impact on the success of that product.

So how do you choose the right oil?

Below we’ve outlined the major skin types and the carrier oils that I found work best for each type. Choose an oil best suited for the purpose of your product and you’ll have success every time!

Normal Skin

Use Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Hempseed Oil, Sunflower Oil or Grapeseed Oil.

Dry Skin

Olive Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Avocado Oil and Rosehips Oil are moisturizing choices for this skin type.

Oily Skin

Sunflower Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil and Grapeseed Oil all work well with oil-prone skin.

Mature Skin

Choose Almond Oil, Apricot Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sesame Seed Oil, or Rosehips Oil.

Sensitive Skin

Sweet Almond Oil, Sesame Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil and Apricot Oil are all mild enough for use on sensitive skin.

  2. My favorite oils for the skin are: Organic Coconut oil, Argan Oil, Vitamin E oil, Sweet Almond oil, Jojoba oil and somewhat new to me Sunflower Oil! Argan & Jojoba oil are both great for the hair and face. Vitamin E oil is fantastic for the lips. Coconut and Sweet Almond are great in body butters.
