The Zodiac Guide to Essential Oils: Virgo
Last time, we went over the challenges that Leo has with high blood pressure, back pain and other ailments. Today, we’ll be exploring Virgo’s particular attributes, their health challenges and how this sign’s essential oil, frankincense, can help alleviate some of those issues.
Virgo is an Earth sign, but manages to lean toward the neurotic and anxious side of the emotional spectrum despite the stability that can bring to other signs. They’re often introverts, however, which makes it hard to tell just how driven, nervous or stressed they are on the inside.
A Virgo is driven by a need for order, perfection and completeness, which can make them picky, controlling and obsessive about the things that are the focus of their anxiety. At the same time, they’re able to maintain incredible focus that allows them to be high achievers academically and professionally. Let’s go over some of the factors that go into people born under this sign:
- Symbol: The Maiden
- Opposite Sign: Pisces
- Colors: Brown, green
- Ruling Planet: Mercury
- Ruled by: Ruled by sinuses, bowels and respiratory system
For both romantic partners and friends, Virgo can be rather selective. Very often, Virgo’s attributes make it a good match for Capricorn, a gentle, loyal and patient sign. Virgo is a very pragmatic, utilitarian sign, so they don’t get along well with very dramatic, emotional signs. This sign enjoys stable, low-intensity relationships with people who stimulate them intellectually and can match their ambition and perfectionist requirements.
Mercury governs intellect and communication, so Mercury-ruled Virgins are extremely analytical mindset. A lot of bookworms have been born under this sign. They have a rich internal world, vivid imaginations and strong critical thinking skills.
High intellect is often coupled with perfectionism, and this sign is no exception. Virgo is driven to constantly improve everything about themselves and those around them. This can be a double-edged sword as it provides them with attention to detail and ambitious drive, but can also lead to obsession and being over-critical. They’re analytical nature allows Virgins to detach their decision-making faculties from their emotions, able to avoid anxiety over even very big decisions.
Their laser-like focus can often cause Virgins to obsess over trivial details, causing a great deal of stress over minutiae that can affect their health. They can be extremely self critical.
When things don’t go smoothly, Virgo can fall into a bad mood, affecting others around her or him. Their heavy self-criticism causes them to judge others harshly for personal failings or differences. Despite their adaptability, failure to achieve goals sends Virgo into spiraling discouragement and often depression.
This sign needs constant intellectual stimulation, so it’s often hard for them to be with people whom they view as less intelligent, or at least less interested in the subjects they tend to obsess over.
Virgo is ruled by the sinuses, bowels and respiratory system, with predictable health effects and common ailments. Cold and flu symptoms can be particularly poignant for people with these vulnerabilities. Indigestion and constipation are also common for those who are less careful of trigger foods in their diets. Stomach cramps and even ulcers can result from high levels of stress and poor diet choices.
Mental health issues can also crop up for Virgo. Anxiety and depression can be common for high-energy Virgos. Disappointment can be hard to deal with, leading them into spirals of negativity and sadness, especially when their pet projects don’t go their way.
Virgo’s Essential Oil: Frankincense
Traditional medicine throughout the world has viewed this essential oil as an aid to digestion and a benefit for healthy skin. It’s also used as a diuretic, a remedy for bad breath and as an aromatherapy remedy for inflamed respiratory passages.
Frequently used in religious ceremonies and rituals, frankincense stimulates and elevates the mind, aiding in stress-relief and encouraging a meditative mindset. It has been found, in one study, to have psychoactive properties, relieving depression and anxiety. Another study reported benefits for patients with osteoarthritis, providing significant improvement within days.
