Got stinky shoes?

I feel your pain- my husband has a TON (not me, my shoes smell wonderful J ).

I’m pretty sure this product speaks for itself. If you have a stinky shoe problem, this simple spray will help to neutralize the odor and eliminate the stink.

In my home, the stink problem happens to be basketball shoes. With my husband playing several games a week you could easily faint just from opening his gym bag and inhaling!

It’s pretty bad.

After several failed attempts to rid the shoes of the odor, this little spray seems to be making a difference!

With only two ingredients it couldn’t be easier to make.

You’ll need:

2 oz. Plastic Clear Bullet Bottle with Fine Mist Spray tops

Vodka (any type, just not flavored)

Tea Tree Oil

Instructions:

Fill the bottleĀ 3/4 of the way full with Vodka.

Fill the lastĀ 1/4 of the bottle with Tea Tree Oil.

Screw the spray top on and shake well before using.

Shake well before each use and spray liberally. I removed the lining of each shoe and sprayed it to be sure every inch of the stinky sole was treated. Spray parts of the shoe that the touch the skin, collect sweat and breed bacteria (resulting in the stink that we’re trying to eliminate).

Toss a bottle in your gym bag and spray shoes after each use. The vodka will kill the bacteria and tea tree oil is both antibacterial and antifungal, helping to prevent new growth. If used regularly, this spray can work wonders in fighting odor! PS- you can also spray it directly on your feet prior to slipping on your shoes.

See ya later stinky shoes!

Here are a few more ideas for shoe odor:

Powder:

Baking Soda(AKA Sodium Bicarbonate)

Tea Tree Oil

To use: Sprinkle liberally in shoes. When ready to put shoes on, turn shoes over and tap out excess powder. After use, sprinkle more powder in and repeat steps.

Sachets:

Baking Soda

Arrowroot Powder

Tea Tree Oil

Small Fabric Square

Twine

To use:

Place even amounts of baking soda and arrowroot powder on fabric square. Add several drops of tea tree oil. Gather edges of fabric and tie with twine creating a small sachet. Place 1-2 sachets in each shoe before and after use.

  1. I love all these ideas and I would love to see the cost comparison with off-the-shelf products. Thank you so much and keep them coming.

    1. You can fill it with 1.25 oz of vodka, add a teaspoon of the tea tree oil and baking soda.

      Hope this helps you Deb!

  2. How much vodka? I am only seeing question marks. And how many drops of tea tree oil? I only need those two ingredients and then shake it up, correct? Thank you.
