Did you know that Bulk Apothecary carries a HUGE selection of natural foods? Nuts, flours, dried fruits, agave nectars….the list goes on!
So when thinking of ideas for Father’s Day, I thought some spicy mixed nuts would be the perfect, healthy treat! My grandpa LOVES nuts so this recipe is right up his alley.
You can make this recipe as is, or double/triple the batch to package some up for all of the special guys in your life! Make it extra spicy or more on the sweet side- the choice is yours.
And it’s easy- so grab the kids and have them help!
1 cup Almonds
½ cup Cashews
½ cup Brazil Nuts
½ cup Pumpkin Seeds
1tsp Chili Powder
1 tsp Paprika
¾ tsp Ground Cumin
½ tsp Black Pepper
½ tsp Cayenne Pepper
Salt to Taste (I used ½ tsp Coarse Salt and then an extra sprinkle of table salt to taste at the end)
1/2- 1 tsp Sugar
2 TBS Olive Oil
2 TBS Agave Nectar
For my sweet and spicy nuts, I mix all of the spices together except for the table salt and the sugar- I sprinkle those two ingredients at the end so that I can assess the taste while adding them.
Mix all of the nuts and seeds together and spread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Place the nut mixture in the oven and roast at 325 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Occasionally stir the nuts to be sure all are roasted evenly and none burn. You’ll know they’re ready when they become fragrant.
Carefully transfer the mixture to a bowl and immediately pour the wet ingredients over the nuts.
Stir well to coat the mixture with the olive oil and agave nectar.
Sprinkle the spices over the warm mixture.
Using a wooden spoon or spatula, fold the spice mixture into the nuts. Scoop from the bottom and stir well to be sure all of the nuts and seeds have been well coated with the spice mixture.
Every nut should have a nice coating of olive oil, agave and spices!
Spread the mixture back over the parchment paper. Test a few pieces to determine the taste and sprinkle table salt and sugar to taste.
Allow to cool completely.
Scoop the mixture into a lidded jar for storage.
To finish, print a great label for the jar. Get creative! You can make the label general, stating what the mixture is, OR, you can print out some fun titles to make the gift extra special.
Dad is sure to love these! As will anyone else that’s around when they’re opened.
Happy Father’s Day to all of the wonderful Dads out there!
